As told to Vulcan Magazine.

What first inspired you to act?

My dad is a brilliant actor and comedian so it was definitely in my blood and something I wanted to do from a very young age. He was a huge inspiration. I also grew up watching reruns of “I Love Lucy” constantly; I think this also played a huge part in my love of comedy.

To take the role of Marisa in K.C. Undercover, you had to turn down a role in Mamma Mia! What kind of questions do you ask yourself when choosing a role, what does it ultimately come down to? I imagine it is not an easy decision.

It definitely wasn’t an easy decision but I knew that I could always return to New York to do theater but the opportunity to be on Disney and specifically on this show would only come along once-in-a-lifetime. Ultimately I’m happy with my decision because being on K.C. Undercover has completely shaped my career and who I am as a person. I was also able to make my broadway debut this past year as well! So it worked out for the best.
What has been your biggest challenge with playing Marisa over the last couple of years?

There is way more than what meets the eye with Marisa. At first glance she could seem one-dimensional or more surface level but there’s definitely a lot going on with her internally. The challenge for me as an actress was to make her multilayered and a completely rounded person. A teenage girl who at first glance seems to just be obsessed with boys and shopping and partying but has real fears, insecurities and worries about life like any normal teenager.
As we make our way through Season 3, the girls are finishing their last year of high school. How is Marisa handling juggling her friendship with K.C.? Do you think they’ll still be friends after high school, given all they’ve been through?

I think KC. and Marisa’s friendship could withstand anything. The thing that Marisa struggles with most during senior year is the idea of going to college and also realizing that she’s a lot smarter than everyone seems to think she is.

Any particularly funny moments from set with the cast you’d like to share with us?

There’s always so many funny moments on set, I honestly can’t think of just one because we are literally laughing constantly every day. We are just one big goofy family.

You’ll also be appearing in the film The Ninth Passenger. Can you tell us a little about the movie and your role as Christy?

The Ninth Passenger is very different than anything else I’ve done, it’s an intense thriller and it allowed me to explore new realms of my acting ability. I’m excited for my fans to see me in a different light.

If you found yourself aboard a yacht where a potential murderer was on board, would you jump ship, try to ride it out and hope you survive, or begin searching for the killer?

I was on swim team so I would probably jump ship and try swimming to shore lol. I have a killer backstroke.

Outside of acting, what are you most passionate about?

I love to sing and dance theater has always been deep in my heart. I’m also really passionate about the Children’s Hospital and all the incredible work they do. I’m partnering up with the Starlight Foundation this fall to volunteer and give back.

What has been the best part about working for Disney, and would you recommend it to young budding actors?

Disney is definitely an amazing platform and gives you an incredible opportunity to connect with young fans and create an incredible launching pad.

Do you have a favourite Disney flick?

I’m a huge Pixar fan so probably Monsters Inc. but I honestly love them all!

How does being a Disney star impact the way you utilize social media? Do you find yourself being extra careful given your young fan base?

I definitely a more aware of what I post because of the young demographic I am catering to, but at the same time I try to remain true to myself and as authentic as I can on social media.
